INTRO

LGBT behavior is a long-standing aspect of human sexuality, present since antiquity. In fact, sexuality beyond just opposite genders is not solely a human behavior; it is found even in numerous other species throughout nature. This lends credence to the fact that being LGBT is a fully natural impulse and behavior, and many human cultures and societies have practiced it for millennia. As an integral aspect of human sexuality, LGBT references are scattered throughout the mythological universe, enriching it with perspectives that seem more liberal than many modern-day perspective. Therefore, the elements of homosexuality, bisexuality, and other types of sexuality beyond exclusive relations between opposite genders present in different cultures around the globe prove that LGBT behavior is a universal human characteristic that modern society should embrace instead of ostracize.

Across centuries, there have been constantly shifting attitudes towards LGBT sexuality, shaped by religious and social trends sweeping the globe. Attitudes have ranged from open acceptance and no punishment to prejudice, ostracism, and in many cases even the death penalty. From many indigenous cultures with little to no stigma, to Judeo-Christian beliefs condemning homosexuals; the debate over sexuality beyond exclusive opposite-sex interaction is one that is prevalent even today, widely contested within the legislative and judicial systems of nations around the world. This debate is as old as sexuality itself, and is completely unwarranted. LGBT behavior has existed in many cultures and societies: from Ancient Greece and Rome, to Native American cultures, and even contemporary modern society.

The following pages will examine the prevalence of LGBT elements in various societies, cultures, and mythologies around the world.
